Genesis Innovations Announces the Retirement of Founder Gunter Preuss

March 31, 2026

Genesis Innovations announces the retirement of founder and longtime owner, Gunter Preuss.

After more than three decades of leadership, craftsmanship, and innovation, Gunter steps away from the company he founded in 1992. Beginning in a 1,600-square-foot horse barn in Loveland, Colorado, Gunter grew Genesis Innovations into a nationally recognized leader in high-end residential and hospitality millwork.

Gunter’s journey in woodworking was shaped by his upbringing in Germany’s Black Forest region and a family legacy rooted in craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. Throughout his career, he built and led multiple successful manufacturing businesses, ultimately establishing Genesis Innovations as a company defined by ingenuity and a commitment to quality.

Under his leadership, Genesis evolved from residential cabinetry into large-scale commercial fixtures and, later, luxury hospitality and high-end residential projects. The company contributed to some of the industry’s most notable destinations, including The Broadmoor, 1 Hotels, and Caldera House.

Through major industry shifts, including the challenges of the 2008 recession, Gunter guided Genesis with determination and adaptability, positioning the company for long-term success.

In September 2025, Genesis Innovations entered a new chapter with its acquisition by Watson Mills & Design, joining a family of companies that includes Schacht Mill Works. This transition positions Genesis for continued growth while preserving the values and craftsmanship Gunter instilled from day one.

Reflecting on this transition and the future of the company, Gunter shared, “We are excited about the legacy that this leaves for our family, our employees, and our customers.”

Gunter’s legacy is deeply embedded in the culture, capabilities, and reputation of Genesis Innovations. His passion for woodworking, innovation in manufacturing, and commitment to people have left a lasting mark on both the company and the broader industry.

As Genesis moves forward under the Watson Mills Design umbrella, the combined strength of Genesis Innovations, Watson Mills & Design, and Schacht Mill Works will continue to expand capabilities and serve clients at the highest level, building on the foundation Gunter created.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Gunter for his leadership, vision, and lasting impact, and we wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.
